Pakistan and Iran Set Sights on $10 Billion Bilateral Trade Goal: PM Shehbaz Sharif

Being a significant move toward regional economic integration, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday said that Pakistan and Iran are eager to take the bilateral level of trade to an all-time high of $10 billion. The prime minister made this announcement during the joint press conference with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, which opens a new chapter in the enhancement of diplomatic and economic relationships between the two neighboring countries.
Strategic Dialogues and Signed Agreements Spur Economic Optimism
Referring to the media event, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the unshakeable determination of both governments to convert potential into reality. He ensured that a package of important agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) had been signed, which would open the door to a spectacular increase in trade, connectivity, and cooperation in various fields.
He said, “Our leadership is dedicated to the vision to reach this $10 billion bilateral trade target at the earliest. The papers signed today form the basis of what will eventually be full-fledged agreements between the two countries.” The two nations have agreed to have detailed follow-up meetings between their respective delegations to iron out the practical measures needed to speed up progress.
A Deep-rooted Brotherhood: Culture, Religion, and Regional Unity
Emphasizing the strong religious and cultural bonds, Prime Minister Sharif described the geo-strategic affinity between Iran and Pakistan as of brotherhood of history. “Our nations have more than a shared border—we share common traditions, common faith, and a common vision of regional peace and prosperity,” he stated.
President Pezeshkian recited these lines, pointing to the fact that the “bonds of affinity” between the Iranian and Pakistani people transcend politics. Pointing to Allama Iqbal’s poetic insight, he emphasized the need for Muslim solidarity from country to country and lauded the unwavering solidarity of Pakistan in times of crisis.
Denunciation of Israeli Aggression and Solidarity on International Issues
The leaders also took the moment to deplore Israel’s aggressive move against Iran this year. Prime Minister Sharif deplored the attack strongly and called it unjustifiable and unacceptable. “There was no justification or reason for Israel’s attack,” he said, adding further that not just the Pakistani government but 240 million Pakistanis were with Iran.
Sharif voiced his sincerest condolences over the deaths of Iranian generals, scientists, and civilians in the war and hoped for the quick recovery of the injured. He commended the Iranian government and armed forces for their courage and tactical intervention, highlighting the ways in which Iran’s counterattacks exposed vulnerabilities in Israel’s defense systems.
Iranian President Praises Pakistan’s Assistance During Regional Tensions
President Pezeshkian welcomed Pakistan’s consistent support during the last ten days of Israeli aggression, and he appreciated Pakistan’s government, parliament, and people for the solidarity at this critical time. He once again emphasized that relations with the neighbors were not only political but were very emotional and strategic. He emphasized that Pakistan is not merely another neighboring country, but it is a brother nation, and it is a priority of Iran’s foreign policy agenda to develop relations with such countries. We’re going in the right direction, and I am glad that both parties are now taking genuine, real-life steps to move forward,” he said.
