In Wednesday’s Senate budget session, Senator Poonjo Bheel requested government employees be granted a 25% increase in salaries to enable them to sustain the increasing cost of living even more. He claimed that this budget is not enough compared to all the past years, citing the necessity of extra financial support to government sector employees.
Farmers’ Struggle Emphasized as Budget Concerns Loom
Senator Bheel also cautioned of the farmers’ crisis, noting that excessive input prices and low returns on crops are strangling the farm sector. His statement echoed the demand for policy reforms to assist farmers and stabilize food prices.
Criticism of Foreseen Salary & Pension Reforms
At the same time, Senator Kamil Ali Agha dismissed the government’s claims of a 10% rise in salary and 7% raise in pension and said that these are insufficient in the fight against inflation. He called on authorities to rethink such measures to provide greater relief to poor households and achieve a fair distribution of resources for the poor.
By addressing these economic concerns, parliamentarians aim to alleviate budgetary pressures on both public officials and deserving individuals. Watch this space for more news on Pakistan’s budget reforms.
