Punjab government has set aside Rs. 4 billion in its 2025-26 budget for a new solar panel scheme to encourage supply of renewable energy in the province.
The project seeks to provide affordable, renewable energy to poor communities and lower the cost of electricity, thereby making the nation more energy-independent.
Besides the solar project, the budget highlights other important investments. Funding in the transport sector grew 359%, which indicates that the government is focusing on urban transport networks.
Apart from this, Rs. 8.3 billion is being earmarked for shrimp farming to diversify agriculture and encourage the growth of the aquaculture sector.
Social welfare schemes also received a huge amount of funds, such as Rs. 3.5 billion for Minority Card, Rs. 4 billion for Chief Minister Punjab Himmat Card, and Rs. 40 billion for Maryam Nawaz Social Security Ration Card.
The government spent Rs. 150 billion on the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar housing scheme to provide low-cost houses for low-income people. The government also approved a 10% raise in the salaries of employees working in the provinces and provided a 5% increase in pension for retired people.
