A high-level meeting, led by Haroon Akhtar Khan, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Industries and Production, was held to assess the government’s initiative to promote electric bikes through financial incentives.
Authorities in line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s green transport vision have weighed proposals to finance 116,000 electric motorcycles. Referring further, electric motorcycles have two unique benefits—lower consumer petrol prices and lower environmental impact—Khan reiterated the government’s dedication to lowering their price.
In order to ensure gender-inclusive participation, 25% of subsidised cycles are also to be supplied to women. The project is likely to decrease the carbon footprint of Pakistan and speed up the shift to green transport.
With a total budgetary commitment of Rs. 4 billion, the upcoming National Electric Vehicle (NEV) Policy would provide a Rs. 50,000 subsidy to buyers of electric motorcycles and a Rs. 200,000 subsidy to buyers of three-wheelers.
Key attendees included Saif Anjum, Secretary of the Ministry of Industries and Production; Ambreen Jan, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting; and Principal Information Officer Mobashir Hassan.
