Iran has launched a fresh attack on Israel using drones and ballistic missiles, hence greatly raising tensions between the two countries.
“Dozens of missiles were fired towards Israeli territory,” Israeli defence officials said, setting off countrywide air raid alarms. The country’s Iron Dome missile defense system successfully intercepted many of the incoming projectiles.
Blasts and fires were witnessed in multiple regions, including close to Israel’s Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv. Local news outlets indicate that rocket impacts were recorded in at least seven central Israeli locations, though the extent of the damage has yet to be officially confirmed.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran claimed responsibility, stating that its forces aimed at “numerous Israeli military installations and airfields.” The attack was described as a “swift and calculated retaliation” for recent Israeli strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and the deaths of high-ranking Iranian military officials. Apparently, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei approved the operation.
Both countries have indicated the likelihood of more military action given the current level of tensions. De-escalation is demanded by global leaders to prevent a more extensive conflict in the area. As of now, no official casualty reports have been released, and military engagements continue on both sides.
